It feels like all Edmonton has been dealt lately is snow and frigid temperatures, to the point where it’s hard to remember what the warmth of the sun feels like.
Luckily, all of that’s about to change. Double-digit highs are in the forecast for Edmonton, and we’re talking positive temperatures this time.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says temperatures could climb to a balmy 10°C by Wednesday next week, which is always welcome news in January.
But with warmer weather on the horizon and weeks of built-up snow from what’s shaping up to be one of Edmonton’s snowiest winters in recent memory, things are about to get real messy. You’ll definitely want to load up on washer fluid if you’re going to be driving.
On foot? Make sure you’ve got a good pair of boots, because nobody likes having a shoe full of mucky puddle water.
As for the forecast, a bit more snow is expected this afternoon and tonight, with temperatures dropping to an overnight low of -12°C, the coldest point of the week.
Friday stays mainly cloudy, with a low of -5°C, warming slightly to around -3°C by the evening.

ECCC
According to ECCC, the average high for Edmonton around this time of year is -8°C, while the average low is -16°C.
So yes, it’s shaping up to be a slushy weekend, but at least we can enjoy the outdoors without needing to wear 10 layers!
While patiently awaiting the heat to arrive in Edmonton, we’d best get out and enjoy it when it does appear. Looking at the next three months of winter weather for Alberta, these warm blasts better be enjoyed.
