Edmonton Oilers fans are loving the team’s new alternate jerseys this year, but they should be prepared to get another new uniform next season.
The retro-inspired cream jerseys have been a hit with the Oilers, largely due to their undefeated record while wearing them this season. Edmonton is a perfect 4-0-0 while wearing the uniforms and has outscored the opposition by a 26-10 margin.
Those jerseys will stick around for a few more seasons at least due to NHL uniform rules, but it won’t be the only alternate uniform in the Oilers arsenal next season.
Reports hit in December that the NHL was set to introduce a league-wide jersey program for the 2026-27 season. This program was said to mimic the NBA’s City Edition campaign and would follow up the NHL’s two previous reverse retro programs.
A supposed leaker then shared details on what these new jerseys could look like in a Reddit thread earlier this month. The leaks reportedly included the primary colour of each uniform, with the Oilers being listed as black, a first for the franchise.
2026-27 Alternate Jersey Program

The Oilers have never had a black jersey throughout their 47-year existence in the NHL. In fact, Edmonton has exclusively worn jerseys that are either blue, orange, or white. The closest the team has come to a black jersey was when they opted to adopt a dark navy blue for a few alternate jerseys.
If this holds up to be true, then the Oilers would be going in a very experimental direction with this new uniform.
The leaker claims to work for a hockey retailer in the United States, and said the jerseys were labelled as being part of the NHL’s “HTR” program. Hockey fans have speculated that this could mean “Hometown Remix,” which would make sense if it were taking inspiration from the NBA’s City Edition program.
Fanatics has already filed a trademark for the “Hometown Remix” phrase, adding some credibility to the speculation.
It remains to be seen if these details end up being accurate or if the team opts to go in another direction. Oilers fans will be hoping that the luck of their current alternate jersey rubs off onto this new jersey next season as well.
