Edmonton Oilers owner Daryl Katz's wealth explodes on Forbes ranking of 2026 billionaires

Edmonton Oilers owner Daryl Katz has amassed a whopping $1.4 billion in the past year, moving up on Forbes‘ yearly ranking of billionaires.

Daryl Katz lands at the #542 spot on the 2026 ranking, leaping 63 spots higher than last year, with a massive $7.2 billion, thanks to his fortune in the pharmacy business and the Katz Group of Companies, which includes sports, entertainment, and real estate development businesses.

He is also known for spearheading the development of Rogers Place arena and the surrounding ICE District in downtown Edmonton.

For the most part, the 64-year-old Edmonton-born billionaire’s wealth has steadily increased over the years, going from $3.1 billion in 2018 and 2019, $3.2 billion in 2020, and $3.6 billion in 2021, to sit at $4.5 billion in 2022, before dropping to $4.3 billion in 2023. His wealth then leaped to $5 billion in 2024, and $5.8 billion last year.

The highest-ranking Canadian on the list was Changpeng Zhao, at a jaw-dropping $110 billion.

A record 3,428 entrepreneurs, investors, and heirs made this year’s World’s Billionaires list, 400 more than in 2025. They are richer than ever, worth a record $20.1 trillion, up $4 trillion from last year. The U.S. has the most billionaires, with a record 989, including 15 of the top 20. China, including Hong Kong, is next, with 610, and India (229) ranks a distant third. We used stock prices and exchange rates from March 1, 2026.

Coming in first place overall on the Forbes ranking was Tesla founder Elon Musk, with a staggering net worth of $839 billion. Larry Page came in second place with $257 billion, while Sergey Brin followed in third with $237 billion. The world’s richest woman was Walmart heir Alice Walton at $134 billion.

The Forbes World’s Billionaires list is a snapshot of wealth using stock prices and exchange rates from March 1, 2026, adding that some people become richer or poorer within days of publication.
