The Edmonton Oilers are three games into the new season, and nobody quite knows what to make of the goaltending so far.
Things started on a rocky note with Stuart Skinner allowing a bizarre game-tying goal en route to a shootout loss to the Calgary Flames. Since then, however, the goaltending has been fantastic, with Calvin Pickard allowing a single goal against the Vancouver Canucks and Skinner following up with a shutout against the New York Rangers.
It’s far too early in the year to make a definitive call on either Skinner or Pickard, but Oilers fans will finally get a first look at a third option down in the AHL. Connor Ingram, who was traded to Edmonton shortly before the season, appears to be locked and loaded to make his first start with the Bakersfield Condors.
Condors reporter Ryan Holt reported that Ingram will be ready to roll as soon as this weekend.

The Condors are set to play two home games this weekend, with a Saturday night contest against the San Jose Barracuda and a Sunday afternoon matchup versus the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
It has not been confirmed by the team whether or not Ingram will get the start in one of those games, but if Holt’s report is correct, it seems likely. The Saskatchewan native played in just a single AHL game last season with the Tucson Roadrunners, a 4-1 victory against Coachella Valley in January.
Ingram is coming off a season that saw him limited to just 22 NHL games with Utah due to various personal issues. He has not played a game since last February and did not participate in Utah’s training camp before being traded to the Oilers.
This lack of a proper training camp ruled out the possibility that he would start the season in the NHL. Edmonton Oilers GM Stan Bowman mentioned that the plan was to give Ingram some time to find his game down in the AHL before potentially working his way into NHL games, depending on how Skinner and Pickard fare.
With the season still in its infancy, a potential Ingram call-up is probably weeks away at the earliest. If both Skinner and Pickard put up good results over that time, the timeline for Ingram to get NHL time will move back even further.
This development will, however, start the clock on the Oilers’ goaltending situation.
