Weather specialist Ciara Yaschuk has departed Global Edmonton after more than seven years with the company.
Yaschuk broke the news yesterday on the Global News Edmonton morning show, posting a clip to her Facebook account shortly after.
“Today is such a hard day for me. After seven and a half years, my time at Global News Edmonton has come to an end. This industry is changing quickly, and sadly, fewer positions are needed,” Yaschuk wrote.
“I can’t thank you enough for letting me be part of your mornings, for welcoming me into your homes, and for all the love and support over the years. My morning team truly became family, and I will miss them, and all of you, more than words can say. This next chapter feels scary, but I know the best is still to come.”
Yaschuk joined Global Edmonton in June 2021 as the new community reporter, after spending three years reporting and filling in for weather and anchoring the morning news at Global Saskatoon, according to her staff personality biography.
In 2023, she became the weather specialist on Global Edmonton’s Global News Morning and Global News at Noon.
Last month, another round of Corus layoffs affected Global News, with a total of 45 people losing their jobs across B.C. and Alberta.
