The Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers have made a trade.

On Friday, the Habs announced that they have acquired Edmonton defenceman Noel Hoefenmayer in exchange for forward Jacob Perreault.

Perreault, 22, joined the Canadiens ahead of the 2024 trade deadline in a deal that saw Jan Mysak head to the Anaheim Ducks.

With only one NHL game under his belt, the former 27th overall pick has spent much of the past six seasons in the AHL. He has one goal and four assists in five games with the ECHL’s Trois-Rivières Lions this season.

Meanwhile, Hoefenmayer, 25, has registered seven points (1G, 6A) in 11 games with the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors this season. Drafted 108th overall by the Arizona Coyotes in 2017, the 6-foot-1, 191-pound blueliner has yet to make his NHL debut.

Throughout 149 career AHL games with the Toronto Marlies and Condors, he has tallied 21 goals and 51 assists.

Back in July, the Oilers re-signed Hoefenemayer to a one-year, two-way deal with an average annual value (AAV) of $775,000.

Both Edmonton and Montreal will be back in action tomorrow night, with the Oilers taking on the St. Louis Blues and the Canadiens hosting the Washington Capitals.
