A former Calgary Flames forward certainly seems to be enjoying the part he played in defeating the Edmonton Oilers to hoist the Stanley Cup.
A.J. Greer, who spent the 2023-24 season with the Flames, departed the organization last summer after signing a two-year deal with the Florida Panthers. The 28-year-old, who suited up for four of six games in the Stanley Cup Final, doesn’t appear to be too fond of the Oilers.
Fans gathered at the Elbo Room to watch Greer and his teammates celebrate with the Stanley Cup, while loudly chanting, “Let’s go Panthers.” That chant quickly changed after the gritty winger offered up a different chorus, however.
Looking down at the crowd, Greer shouted “F*ck the Oilers,” which the crowd picked up.

Though Greer was unable to get on the scoresheet in the Cup Final, he was in the lineup for a very chippy Game 3 in which the Panthers won 6-1. He racked up 12 penalty minutes in the spirited affair.
His chant was likely done out of serious hatred, as it was made quite clear just how much these two teams don’t like one another. Prior to Game 6, TSN’s James Duthie revealed that the on-ice trash talk between the Oilers and Panthers was the nastiest those in on the action have ever heard in a Stanley Cup Final.
Multiple people, who are involved or close enough to hear it all, say this is the nastiest trash-talking Stanley Cup Final they've ever seen. Usually some subjects are off limits. Not here. Everything on the table. "Pure verbal hate."

It certainly makes sense that things would get to a major level of hate, given that this series featured the likes of Corey Perry, Evander Kane, Matthew Tkachuk, and Brad Marchand, all of whom are known for being some of the biggest trash-talkers throughout the entire NHL.
While Panthers and Flames fans will certainly love this video of Greer, it will likely make him a big enemy in the eyes of Oilers fans the next time he suits up in Edmonton, which will only help add to what has quickly turned into an intense rivalry.
