Here's how to apply for over $1000 in support from the Alberta gov

The Province of Alberta is giving $50 million to its residents as emergency isolation support, and applications are now open.

That $50 million breaks down to a cool $1,146 in a one-time payment for eligible Albertans who, according to the Province of Alberta release, “have experienced total or significant loss of income as a result of having to self-isolate or care for a dependent who is self-isolating.”

To make it a little clearer, the provincial government also included a four bullet-point list, stating that Albertans would be eligible for the isolation support payment if:

• They have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
• They are caring for a dependent who is self-isolating.
• They have otherwise been directed by health authorities to self-isolate.
• They are not receiving compensation from any other source.

However, the province’s website also has a list of reasons why you would not be eligible for the support, including if you:

• Were not working immediately before you were advised to self-isolate
• Can work from home
• Are not experiencing a significant loss of income as a result of self-isolation
• Are currently collecting other forms of income support or employer benefits while self-isolated, such as:
  • workplace sick leave benefits
  • federal employment insurance (EI) benefits
• Are staying home to care for a dependent who is home for a reason other than self-isolation
• Reside outside of Alberta

Other supports have been made available for the people who are ineligible for the $1,146 payment, including the one week waiting period on employment insurance being waived, and deferrals on utility payments, student loan repayment, ATB lines of credit and mortgages for up to six months, and the 2019 tax returns until June 1.

Those who are eligible for the emergency support payment can submit an application through the Province of Alberta’s website. You’ll need to create a MyAlberta Emergency Isolation Support digital ID — and you’ll need an Alberta driver’s license or ID card to do so.

The application form takes you through a number of yes or no questions, with some automatically prompting a disclaimer stating that you do not qualify depending on your answers.

Those who successfully apply will receive an email confirmation and, if approved, will see $1,146 deposited into their bank account through an Interact e-Transfer within 24 to 48 hours, the website states.
