Alberta has quickly become a hotspot for film and TV productions, with several projects filming across the province throughout the year.
From long-running TV series and famous movie franchises to brand-new productions, here are a few shows that are filming in Alberta right now.
The Magnificent Seven – Season One
The show synopsis reads, “Set in the tumultuous 1880s American frontier, The Magnificent Seven follows seven gifted but flawed mercenaries hired to protect a peaceful Quaker village after it is massacred by mercenaries working for a ruthless land baron trying to seize their land.” The Magnificent Seven is even bringing some star power to Alberta, like actor Matt Dillon.

Heartland – Season 20

Heartland is a long-running Alberta-made TV series that has been filming across the province for nearly two decades, showcasing the province’s landscapes and small-town communities like High River throughout its many seasons. You can even visit Maggie’s Diner from the show, which is located in High River.

Do You See Ghosts?
The synopsis for Do You See Ghosts? reads, “a caustic workplace safety instructor unravels after learning she is being replaced, as a routine hand-off spirals into degradation, surreal visions, and an increasingly dangerous collapse.”

My Life with the Walter Boys – Season Four

My Life with the Walter Boys follows the story of teen Jackie Howard, who moves in with the Walter family after losing her family in an accident. She finds herself in a love triangle with two of the Walter Boys. It’s already filmed three seasons in the province, and even the actors have some pretty good things to say about Alberta.

My African Family – Season Two

Anna Pigeon

Anna Pigeon premiered on Aug. 7 on Crave. The series focuses on the titular character Anna Pigeon, played by Canadian actress Tracy Spiridakos, who is trying to flee her traumatic past by becoming a park ranger, only to find herself embroiled in a series of crimes committed in the vast American wilderness, according to USA Network. My Life with the Walter Boys – Season Three

While season four is currently filming in Alberta, season three of the series hit Netflix on Aug. 6. According to Netflix in Your Neighbourhood, season three includes some pretty familiar locations like Sheep River Falls, Foothills Athletic Park in Calgary, and the Museum of the Highwood in High River
The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey
The series will focus on one of the most infamous unsolved murder cases in American history: the death of American child beauty pageant contestant JonBenét Ramsey, and the devastating personal and public reckoning that followed.
Two-time Academy Award nominee Melissa McCarthy stars in the project alongside Clive Owen, with the duo portraying JonBenét Ramsey’s parents, Patsy and John Bennett Ramsey. The Alberta-filmed show is set to hit Netflix this winter.
