A popular hiking trail in Jasper National Park has been closed after mudslides struck the area late last week.

The park posted to its Facebook page on Friday, Aug. 1,  stating that the Sulphur Skyline Trail #30 (near Miette Hot Springs) will be closed until further notice.

“The Sulphur Skyline trail is currently experiencing overland flooding and mudslides. Portions of the trail are washed out,” the post said, along with photos of the trail with mudslides covering it.

The area is no stranger to a changing landscape due to weather — back in the summer of 2023, the popular hot spring and hiking trail were closed for much of the season due to a washed-out slope along Miette Road.
