Alberta has officially frozen solid.

The majority of the province has fallen under an Extreme Cold warning, courtesy of Environment Canada, with the only seemingly safe places being southwestern Alberta — where it is still pretty damn cold.

A total of 81 regions have fallen under the warning, which states that “wind chill values near minus 40 will occur today and Tuesday.”

And even though the official warning may let up by Tuesday night, “frigid temperatures are expected to persist over Alberta throughout next week.”

Environment Canada also warns that extreme cold can be dangerous not just to us humans but also to our furry friends.

“If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside,” the warning states.

Symptoms relating to extremely cold temperatures are shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness, and colour change in fingers and toes.

If you note any of these symptoms in yourself or those around you, do not hesitate to seek medical help.

Here’s a look at the province as a whole:

The City of Calgary and much of the regions throughout the southern Rocky Mountains have escaped this round of Environment Canada weather warnings, though Calgary is still seeing temperatures well into the -20s that feel like the -30s.

Be sure to bundle up and stay safe out there, Alberta.
