This Alberta city is the most affordable for young people in Canada

It may get windy and there may be rattlesnakes, but a city in southern Alberta has been ranked the most affordable for young people in Canada.

In a ranking of 27 cities, Lethbridge was found to be the most affordable for people in the 15-29 age demographic.

The findings from Youthful Cities’ Real Affordability Index show that most sub-30 Canadians living in both big and small cities face an average deficit of over $700 per month, with it rising in the country’s biggest cities. When looking at Halifax, the deficit rises to a staggering $1,290.74.

Data for the index was collected and examined through measures to represent the diversity of young people living in our cities. Lenses that the data is examined include gender, career, full-time work/ part-time work, age cohort, and variations in wage.

Lethbridge may be the most affordable city in the country, but it also has one of the largest gender gaps in affordability. Women in Lethbridge typically have a deficit of nearly $300 per month, while men have a surplus of more than $200 per month.

3. Edmonton, Alberta
4. Laval, Quebec
5. Kelowna, British Columbia

Another Alberta spot, Calgary, ranked sixth on the list of most affordable cities.
