The Calgary Stampede has some new artwork to show off for their 2020 show.

Next year’s official Stampede poster was unveiled on Monday, November 4, marking the youngest-ever artist to have the honour of designing artwork for the event, according to a release.

That artist is 17-year-old Ariel Clipperton, who submitted her artwork through the Youth Poster Competition program, which was launched just two years ago.

“I wanted everyone looking at the poster to connect in one way or another,” said Clipperton in the release.

“Whether you can see yourself in the crowd or as the cowboy, I wanted it to be a piece that everyone can connect to, and that is where I found my inspiration.”

“Ariel’s work is a unique perspective for the poster,” said Calgary Stampede First Vice-Chair Dana Peers in the release.

“A competitor’s point of view of the Calgary Stampede Rodeo is something we don’t see often.”

The poster will be printed over 30,000 times, will be featured on official Stampede merchandise, and will be distributed all around the world.

Clipperton also received a $10,000 scholarship from the Brandon Flock Foundation as a reward.

Youth between the ages of 15 and 24 can now apply for the 2021 Poster Competition, with the application deadline falling on Saturday, November 30, 2019.
