Winter isn’t quite finished with Edmonton yet, with another cold snap on the way this weekend, but a major temperature swing could come as soon as next week.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is forecasting a frosty weekend in Edmonton. Today will see a high of -7°C and a low of -12°C, followed by a high of -8°C and a low of -15°C on Friday. The coldest temperatures are expected on Saturday, when the low could drop to -16°C.
After that, things warm up quickly, with temperatures rebounding to a high of 14°C by Wednesday, March 18.
Between the coldest and warmest temperatures this week, Edmonton is looking at a 30-degree temperature swing!
Along with the chilly temperatures, Edmonton could also see some snow, with flurries possible throughout the day today and tomorrow.

In response to the temperature drop, the City of Edmonton is activating its extreme weather response to help keep vulnerable residents safe during the cold snap expected in the coming days.

The response will begin Thursday, March 12, at 9 a.m. and is scheduled to run until Monday, March 16, at 9 a.m. The City notes that updates may be issued if weather conditions change.
An extreme weather response is triggered when the forecast calls for temperatures of -20°C or lower with wind chill for at least three consecutive days. During these activations, public facilities such as recreation centres and libraries remain available during regular hours for anyone needing a place to warm up.
Whether you call this spring, second winter, false spring, mud season, or even a third winter, there’s no doubt that we’re getting another taste of chilly weather before temperatures rise again.
You can find the full forecast on the ECCC website.
