You will soon be able to mute coworkers on Slack

If you’re sick of dealing with an annoying or toxic coworker over Slack, you’ll be thrilled to learn about a new feature being rolled out by the company.

In an email to Daily Hive, Slack says the “Hide Person” feature will work like a mute button in that it “doesn’t completely block people, so you can still access messages that are hidden if you want or need that information for your work.”

But if you need to ignore some messages, it’s going to get a lot easier with the rollout expected to get underway soon and availability to all Slack users in the coming months.

Slack explained how the new feature will work, saying when you hide someone, their name and profile are hidden, push notifications from them are muted, and their messages are behind a click-through warning. However, you will still receive the messages and you can choose to view them if you want.

And if you’re concerned your boss might not love this, the good news is they won’t be able to tell who you keep hidden.

Risa Stein, Director of Product, Integrity, Slack, says in a blog post, “By empowering users with more control and choice, this feature helps create a workplace where team members feel supported and can focus on the task at hand.”

According to Slack, the “feature is one-way, so the hidden person will continue to see all messages as usual within their workspace with nothing hidden from their perspective.”
