The spring-summer travel season is upon us, and a few smart travel hacks can really help you save big and travel better. Whether you’re craving sunny skies, a European adventure, or a change of scenery, you might want to use some tips and tricks.
Skyscanner has just released its latest Travel Hack Series, a monthly roundup of data-driven insights designed for Canadian travellers.
From knowing exactly when to click “book now” on flights to finding dreamy destinations on a budget, they’re all about making your next vacation a little easier.
Here’s how to get the most out of your getaway.

Let’s be honest: flight prices can be a little crazy nowadays. Thankfully, some tools can help you find the best deals on popular destinations worldwide.
Skyscanner’s Savings Generator Tool breaks down everything from the average monthly flight price to the best time to book.
Booking in advance is typically the best way to save, but you can also wait and watch price drops. Search for your dream destination, and use Drops, Skyscanner’s in-app tool, to track fare changes in real-time.
Find affordable destinations

Looking for a getaway that won’t break the bank? Good news: May is full of affordable options.
According to Skyscanner’s report, some of the best deals right now include roundtrip flights from Toronto to Guadalajara starting at just $257, Montreal to Amsterdam for as low as $395, and Halifax to Dublin at around $535.
Google Flights also has a tool that helps you figure out where your next trip is and where the best deals are. Expedia also has an in-app tool that lets you track prices and determine the best time to book.
Save money on hotels

Flights aside, hotels can also take a big bite out of your budget. Again, booking in advance can result in better rates, but there are plenty of other ways to save.
Hostels are a tremendously underrated option. No longer just for backpackers, many modern hostels now feature chic interiors and locally inspired cuisine — and give you the chance to meet other travellers!
You can also use Skyscanner’s hotel filters to sort by guest ratings, price, and star category and find the best stay for your vibe (and your wallet).
Buzzworthy destinations

Of course, not every trip is about saving money. Sometimes, you just want to see the hottest places. Skyscanner says destinations having a serious moment this May include Tuscany, Italy; the Algarve, Portugal; and the Scottish Highlands.
Whether you want to take in rolling green hills and blooming vineyards in Tuscany, see the wildflowers in bloom and explore ancient castles in the Scottish Highlands, or unwind on the hidden beaches of the Algarve, these spots have something for everyone.
