Sunwing updates baggage fee policy in Canada
Canadians who travel using Sunwing Vacations packages have one less fee to worry about.
The travel company, which completed its merger with WestJet in May, announced that it’s bringing back its free first checked bag policy on Sunwing Vacations packages or cruise vacations with round-trip flights on WestJet.
Starting for travel departing on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025, Sunwing passengers won’t have to pay to check their first bag on new and existing all-inclusive vacation package bookings. However, this policy does not apply to e-packages or flight-only bookings.

Flyers who have an existing booking that departs on or after Nov. 25 and have already paid for their first checked bag will be issued a $100 future travel voucher per round-trip bag purchased, reported OpenJaw.
Travel agents will receive the vouchers directly via email to forward to their customers. Daily Hive has reached out to Sunwing to confirm this.
In addition to the first free checked bag, Sunwing Vacations package customers flying on WestJet from Nov. 24, 2025, onwards will be entitled to one free personal item and one free carry-on item.
The travel company implemented a carry-on baggage fee for all passengers in 2022, charging $25 each way (tax included) for additional carry-on luggage.
At the time, the airline said the adjustments to baggage fees were to āsupport the airlineās continued low-cost structure.ā
After its full integration with WestJet earlier this year, the travel company dropped the carry-on baggage fee.
This announcement comes amid the company’s promotion of its Black Friday sale. It’s offering savings of up to $2,060 per pair on over 400 resorts if you book between Nov. 24 and 30, 2025, for travel between Nov. 24, 2025, and April 30, 2026.
This includes all-inclusive vacation packages for Cuba, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, the Caribbean, and Central America.
Sunwing Vacations packages include flights, hotels, and transfers, in addition to the one free checked bag per person.
