A Canadian man is $2.5 million richer after winning the Lotto 6/49 Classic Draw earlier this summer.
Shojiro Yamamoto from Edmonton, Alta., said he usually buys tickets only occasionally, and this win came as a surprise.
“I looked up the winning numbers online,” he said. “I was shocked, and I told my wife.”
“She didn’t believe it,” he added with a laugh.
Yamamoto said he plans to enjoy his lottery win with his family. The timing is ideal, he added, as he recently bought a house.

Yamamoto purchased his ticket at Kikit Convenience Store, located on 178th Street NW in Edmonton. He matched the numbers 6, 25, 27, 34, 38 and 49.
The $5-million jackpot, drawn on July 2, was split with another winner in Alberta.
