Tickets for concerts or sporting events can get pricey, and Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) is now giving rewards members a new way to cover the costs.
Canadians who bank with RBC or have Avion Rewards memberships can now redeem their points to pay for tickets purchased on Ticketmaster. On Wednesday, RBC and Live Nation Canada announced that rewards members can now use their Avion points for tickets to thousands of live events on Ticketmaster.ca.
“By enabling Avion Rewards members to use their points for tickets on Ticketmaster.ca, we’re making it easier than ever for fans to experience incredible live shows while getting real value from their loyalty program,” said Melissa Bubb-Clarke, chief commercial officer at Live Nation Canada.
The feature is available to Avion Rewards members with eligible RBC cards. You also don’t have to be an RBC banking client to sign up for Avion Rewards.

If you’re already an Avion Rewards member, you can connect your account to Ticketmaster.ca and use your points to buy tickets to eligible events.
The redemption program offers members pretty great flexibility. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have enough points to cover the cost of the tickets — you can redeem as little as $0.01 or up to $500 a day. You can then use another payment method to cover the remaining cost. The option to redeem your Avion points will pop up at checkout. There are also no fees when you redeem your points on Ticketmaster.
If an event is cancelled and you only paid with Avion points, you’ll get a Ticketmaster gift card equal to the dollar value of the tickets you purchased with your points. And if you used a combination of points and another payment method, you’ll get a gift card equal to the portion of the ticket you paid with points, while the balance will be credited to your other payment method. Members cannot use their points to purchase resale or second-hand tickets.
How can you sign up?

First, sign in to your Ticketmaster account. Go to “My Account” then “My Profile” where you’ll find the “Connected Accounts” option. Select “Connect” under Avion Rewards and sign in to your account. Once you select the account you want to use, click continue, accept the terms and conditions, and look for an email from Ticketmaster confirming that you’re all set.
“By connecting Avion Rewards directly to Ticketmaster.ca, we’re providing seamless access to Canada’s biggest concerts, festivals and live events,” said Vinita Savani, executive vice president of cards and loyalty at RBC. “This move strengthens our experiential rewards offering and delivers real, tangible value to millions of Canadians.”
Last year, Air Canada announced a similar program that allows Aeroplan members to use their points for tickets to live events.
