Canadian FIFA World Cup star joins Premier League team in England
Canadian men’s national team striker Promise David is heading to the Premier League.
On Tuesday, English club Brighton & Hove Albion announced the acquisition of David on a season-long loan from Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, with an obligation to buy.
The obligation means Brighton & Hove Albion will be required to pay his former team a transfer fee at the end of the 2026-27 season.
David scored 41 goals and recorded nine assists in 82 appearances for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise over his three seasons with the club. He’ll now join his new club ahead of its first Premier League game of the season againstĀ Aston Villa on Aug. 23.

The 25-year-old Brampton, Ont., native played a key role for Canada’s national team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scoring against Switzerland and assisting Cyle Larin’s equalizing goal in Canada’s opening group-stage match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
David will become the fourth Canadian men’s national team player to be on an active roster for this upcoming Premier League season.
He’ll join Liam Millar (Hull City), Luc De Fougerolles (Fulham FC), and his new Brighton & Hove Albion teammate, goalkeeper Tom McGill.
