Big Canadian city was just named one of the best in the world

Just one Canadian destination earned a spot on a very prestigious list of the world’s best big cities.

Almost 800,000 people have weighed in, and Montreal, Que., has been named one of the
10 best big cities in the world in Condé Nast Traveler‘s 39th annual Readers’ Choice Awards.

Voters must have been swayed by Montreal’s food, wine, architecture, and art enough to land at number six on the prestigious list.

With its charming cobblestoned streets, lush parks, and lively cafe culture, Montreal can feel a little like you’ve travelled to Europe without having left Canada.

There’s plenty to explore, from the historic streets of Old Montreal to trendy bars, art galleries and some seriously good restaurants. Heck, you could even run into former prime minister Justin Trudeau, who has a penchant for dancing around in hardware stores (yes, really).

Montreal had some stiff competition, but managed to edge out destinations like Kyoto, Singapore, Cape Town, and its ever-romantic sister city, Paris, to land in sixth place in 2026.

If you’re curious about which big city was crowned the very best this year, that would be Seoul, South Korea.

And Montreal isn’t the only Canadian destination getting some love. The publication also crowned Victoria, B.C., as the best small city in the world.
