Million-dollar lotto winner heading to the Philippines to build a new home

After winning a million dollars in the lottery, the winner is heading to visit their family.

Coquitlam, BC, resident Rosa Rodriguez told the BCLC that she was at the Port Coquitlam Chevron to get gas and another lottery ticket when she found out that she had won.

“I checked my [other] ticket and thought I only won $1,000. I was too short to see the scanner so I had to lean up and scan again — I could not believe I just won $1 million!”

Rodriguez won $1 million from the July 8, 2023, Lotto 6/49 draw after purchasing the winning ticket from the London Drugs in Coquitlam Centre.

When she told her husband about the win, “he was so excited and gave me a hug,” she said.

She says she still feels shocked and like she’s “floating in the air” after the win.

Now, she plans to visit her family in the Philippines, renovate her home and build a new home in the Philippines. She’ll also help her son and take a visit to Singapore, where she first met her husband.
