McDonald's is adding a new vegetarian burger to its menu in Canada

Herbivores across Canada are about to get a brand-new option at McDonald’s, as the fast-food chain adds a new vegetarian burger to its menu.

The days of vegetarians being forced to subsist on fries alone during their trips to McDonald’s are about to be over, as the mega chain just announced it’s introducing a new burger that’s totally vegetarian.

Officially joining McDonald’s menus across Canada as of Tuesday, Sept. 16, the McVeggie might feature a plant-based patty, but it packs enough of a punch to appease even the most carnivorous of McDonald’s lovers.

“Canadians asked for more options to meet modern lifestyles, and we listened,” says Francesca Cardarelli, chief marketing officer at McDonald’s Canada.

“The McVeggie isn’t just a sandwich, it’s a celebration of bold flavour and our commitment to serving all guests and their evolving tastes.”

The burger consists of a crispy, breaded patty made with a seasoned blend of carrots, green beans, zucchini, peas, soybeans, broccoli, and corn. We’re not sure we’ve ever even seen that many vegetables under one McDonald’s roof before, but we’re not mad at it.

The patty is then dressed with shredded lettuce and mayo-style sauce (sorry, vegans, it contains eggs) a laĀ McChicken and served either a la carte or with a side of those legendary fries.

For those who like an extra kick, you can also opt for theĀ Spicy Habanero McVeggie, which comes topped with the chain’s beloved creamy habanero sauce.

The McVeggie joins the McDonald’s Canada rotation permanently after occupying various European and U.S. menus for years, and mega-successful test-runs in B.C., Ontario, and New Brunswick earlier in 2025, so there’s already some solid evidence that it’ll be a hit.

“When we introduced the McVeggie in our restaurants during the test earlier this year, the response from guests was incredible,” says Kathy Damrell, an Ontario McDonald’s franchisee.

“I’m thrilled that McDonald’s CanadaĀ is now making it available across the country.”

Will it be enough to contend with A&W’s perpetually popular Masala Veggie Burger, though?Ā ThatĀ remains to be seen.
