Two Canadian lottery players beat some pretty slim odds. Not only did they both win the lottery on the same day, but they also share similar first names and live in the same region.

Danielle Dubois is a retired teacher who lives in Laurentides, Quebec. After the February 1 Lotto 6/49 draw, she logged on to her lotoquebec.com account. To her surprise, she found out that she was a winner.

“It said $100,000. That can’t be true,” said Dubois. But when she checked again, she was in shock: she had won the Lotto 6/49 guaranteed White Ball prize worth $1 million. She recalled closing and reopening the page to make sure the results were correct. Finally, reality sunk in that she’s now $1 million richer.

Elsewhere in Laurentides, Daniel Senecal, another lottery player, was logging into his online account.

After checking the results, Senecal discovered that he had won $123,358 after splitting the Lotto 6/49 Classic Draw second prize with another winner from Ontario.

He knew there was only one way to convince his spouse that he had won: he sent her a screenshot to prove his win of $123,358.

“She didn’t believe me!” he said.

Dubois and Senecal finally met on February 7, when they claimed their winnings at an event at the Casino de Mont-Tremblant.

Now, with an extra $1 million, Dubois said that her windfall will allow her to live comfortably and enjoy the rest of her retirement.
