A Canadian couple is celebrating an impressive win after very nearly missing out when the wife almost threw away the winning lottery ticket.
Lottery players Christine Chabot and François Huet live in Lanaudière, Que. One day, they purchased a ticket from an IGA Extra grocery, opting for a Célébration ticket that costs $25 per play. The Célébration 2026 gala aired on Jan. 11, during which Loto-Québec announced the five winning tickets. However, it appears that the couple may have been unaware that the draw had taken place.

Chabot had been cleaning up when she came across a stack of papers that she wanted to throw out. While going through the papers, she came across several tickets, and among them was the forgotten Célébration ticket. She decided to check the ticket using the Loto-Québec app, and to her shock, she discovered that they were one of the five top prize winners: they were now $1 million richer.
The couple recalled that their son was just as surprised and even checked the website to confirm the winning numbers. Still in disbelief, the entire family headed to the retailer to check the final amount, where they confirmed that they really were in possession of the winning ticket.

Loto-Québec
Chabot and Huet headed to the Loto-Québec headquarters to pick up their massive $1-million cheque and pose for their winners’ photo. When asked what they plan to do with their windfall, the very practical couple said they’re going to invest the money for their retirement.
The ticket was purchased at the IGA Extra grocery store on Boulevard Laurier in Terrebonne. The retailer will receive a one per cent commission of $10,000.
