Canada is hardly the first country that comes to mind when it comes to the most romantic destinations in the world — but that could soon change.

Canada is, in fact, home to some of the most romantic destinations in the world, according to a new ranking, beating out some of the most famous spots on the planet. Sure, when you think of romance, you probably think of the Eiffel Tower.

Surprisingly, the Eiffel Tower isn’t even among the top 50 (it’s at number 68), based on the latest ranking from a South African travel agency, Go2Africa. The company analyzed 108 popular destinations worldwide using over 1.5 million reviews and rankings left specifically by couples.

The number one most romantic destination in the world is the Matterhorn, Switzerland, which got a 98.66 per cent rating due to its breathtaking views and scenic train rides. However, multiple Canadian locations also came out on top.

“Our report reveals the hidden gems and breathtaking natural wonders that consistently earn a near-perfect score from couples,” reads the release.

The good news? Couples in Canada looking for a romantic Valentine’s getaway don’t have to go very far. In fact, the 15th most romantic place in the world is in Vancouver. So, if you need some couple time to reconnect, there are plenty of options right here at home.

Here are the six most romantic destinations in Canada, according to couples.

A basilica may seem like an unlikely spot when it comes to the most romantic destinations in Montreal, but couples love it for its awe-inspiring Gothic Revival architecture. While it’s impressive enough during the day, the space comes alive at night when it hosts The AURA Experience, a magical sound and light show that celebrates the beauty of the Notre-Dame Basilica.
