After winning a life-changing lottery prize, one very lucky Canadian claimed her prize in a truly spooktacular way.
Vicky Dion is a 30-something resident of MontĂ©rĂ©gie, Que. One day, she decided to play a game on the Loto-QuĂ©bec website, opting for the FiĂ©sta Reaction, a game inspired by Mexico’s Day of the Dead traditions. The game allows players to put in a minimum 10-cent bet to match the symbols to win.
“I tried the FiĂ©sta Reaction game because it had beautiful colours, it reminded me of Halloween,” recalled Dion.

On Oct. 4, she said that she was in her kitchen playing the game when she suddenly saw the prize amount displayed across her screen. She was shocked when she realized that she had won the game’s progressive jackpot worth $1,933,980.
“When I won the progressive prize, I called my husband and he didn’t believe me, obviously, because it’s rare to announce that you won over a million in 30 seconds,” she said.

Dion received her life-changing cheque at the Loto-Québec’s office just days before Halloween and Day of the Dead. And it was a rather special celebration, too: a Day of the Dead celebration in keeping with the theme of the game.
In addition, she was treated to a personalized face painting lesson, and Dion chose La Catrina, a popular symbol of the holiday.
Now over $1.9 million richer, the mother of two said she plans to use her winnings to be mortgage-free. Her big win will also allow her to fulfill another dream: to take her family to Walt Disney World.
