On Tuesday, Mediacorp Canada Inc. released its annual list of the nation’s top employers. Now in its 26th year, Canada’s Top 100 Employers is an editorial competition that recognizes “exceptional human-resources programs and forward-thinking workplace policies.”
Organizations are evaluated on several criteria: workplace, work atmosphere, health, financial and family benefits, vacation and time off, employee communications, performance management, training and skills development, and community involvement.
Kristina Leung, managing editor of the project, said that the top employers stand out due to their “steadfast commitment to employees.”
“Leading employers are carefully listening to their workforce and ensuring strong support remains in place,” she said.
“Over the past year, we’ve seen a greater emphasis on financial security to help employees feel more confident, even amid economic uncertainty. But importantly, there has been no broad pullback in benefits or working conditions among the best employers.”

Manulife, one of Canada’s largest insurance providers, made this year’s list thanks to its comprehensive family-planning support. The company provides employees generous support at every stage of family planning — from unlimited coverage for fertility drugs and treatments to financial support for adoption, to a maximum of $20,000 annually.

Desjardins

Desjardins is one of the largest cooperative financial groups in North America and employs over 55,000 people.
The company is on this year’s list as it offers employees hybrid and flexible work options. And since getting to work costs money, employees receive a $200 commuting allowance for transit and car-sharing costs. An in-house ridesharing platform also encourages employees to connect with each other.
