Whatever the odds are to win the lottery, some people are just plain lucky, like one Canadian woman who won twice in the same week.
Lottery player Sylvie Bertrand lives in Sainte-Cécile-de-Masham in Outaouais, a region in western Quebec. One day, she stopped at a convenience store and purchased a ticket, opting for the game The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg, which costs $2, $5, or $10 per play.
To Bertrand’s surprise, she won one of the game’s more unique prizes: a chance to appear on TV to see how much she could win. When she appeared on the show as a contestant on Jan. 26, she won a $32,000 prize.

Sylvie Bertrand participated in the TV show “La Poule aux œufs d’or” with hosts Julie Houle and Sébastien Benoit (Loto-Québec)
But Bertrand’s winning streak wasn’t over.
Later that week, she purchased another The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg ticket online and was checking the results on Feb. 2 when she realized she had won again.
“This morning: surprise! $100,000!” she recalled.
Now $132,000 richer, Bertrand shared her plans with her winnings: she will use her money to renovate her house and buy a new vehicle.

“We’re going to treat ourselves,” she said.
The lucky winner said she’s not done yet and plans to continue playing the lottery.
Bertrand isn’t the only lottery player who has won more than once.
Ajax, Ont. resident Ann–Marie Jeremiah is a public service worker and a mother of three who won a $1-million Lotto 6/49 draw Encore prize on April 20, 2024. Less than a year later, she won a $100,000 prize after playing the Instant Crossword Tripler.

“I feel beyond blessed. To have won twice is a surreal feeling. Now that’s something I can brag about,” she said.
