A mom from Quebec recently discovered she won the lottery during a busy time in her life.
Capitale-Nationale resident Maude Simard got the surprise of a lifetime as she was packing up her home for a move on July 1, 2026. She checked her Lotto 6/49 ticket and realized she had won $1 million in the June 27 draw.
The day before moving into her new place, she took a break from packing to pick up her million-dollar lottery cheque.

Loto-Québec
While relaxing on the couch after a long day of packing, Simard opened the Loto-Québec app to check her Lotto 6/49 ticket.
“I saw confetti appear, and I shrieked, ‘No way!’” she recalled.
Simard’s children heard her shocked reaction, so they came over to see what had happened. That’s when the exciting news turned into a joyful family celebration.
The lottery winner picked up her prize at the Salon de jeux de Québec on June 30. The mom, who is in her forties, told Loto-Québec that she would take some time to settle into her new place before making any plans about how to spend her win.
The winning lottery ticket was purchased at Dépanneur Ferland, located at 1184 Chemin Royal in Saint-Pierre-de-l’Île-d’Orléans. The retailer will receive a one per cent commission of $10,000.
While Simard may not have an idea of what she wants the prize money to go towards, other winners have some excellent examples.
A couple that recently won the $75-million Lotto Max jackpot plan on travelling the world but also want to give back to their community.
