One Canadian has just beaten the most unlikely odds by winning the lottery twice in just a few years.

John Butler, a construction worker from Ottawa, Ont., is no stranger to winning the lottery.

John and his sister Veronica, both regular lottery players, earned $1 million after winning an Encore prize after purchasing a Lottario ticket for the Sept. 4, 2021, draw.

“I went to the store to check our ticket and came home to tell Veronica we won!” John recalled. “We are excited and overjoyed!”

When asked what they planned to do with their share of the winnings, they said they’re putting their windfall towards home repairs and retirement.

Four years later, John is celebrating once again after purchasing a Daily Keno ticket.

“I used the ticket checker at the gas station and was shocked when I saw that I won,” John said. “I checked my ticket about six more times. I was very happy!”

Thanks to his Daily Keno 8 Pick, he won a $50,000 prize in the Oct. 11 draw. And, of course, he didn’t forget his sister and shared the news with her immediately.

“She was surprised and very happy for me,” he said.

While at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to claim his winnings, the 65-year-old said that he’s putting his winnings towards savings. However, he is thinking of treating himself by going on vacation.

John purchased his winning ticket at Cigarman on Bank Street in Ottawa.
