A Canadian lottery player who made a split-second decision to buy another ticket is now celebrating a massive win.
Jeffrey Petrusenko is a 36-year-old automotive worker who lives in Windsor, Ont. For nearly 15 years, he has been trying his luck in the lottery, playing a variety of games, including Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49, and Daily Keno. He said he usually plays his own set of numbers and buys tickets when there’s a big jackpot up for grabs.
“I saw a promotion on OLG.ca where you buy four Lotto 6/49 tickets and get one free, so I decided to grab some,” said Petrusenko. “I got a few Lotto 6/49 tickets and randomly decided to add a Daily Keno to my purchase.”
While enjoying lunch one day, he noticed that he had received an email from OLG stating that he was a winner.
“At first, I thought I’d won $1,000 and couldn’t believe it,” he shared with a laugh. “When I opened the OLG app and realized I’d matched all 10 numbers, I was so shocked and excited. It felt surreal!”

Petrusenko discovered that his Daily Keno 10 Pick resulted in a $1.25-million win in the May 4 midday draw. He said he immediately called his mom and friends.
“Everyone was so happy for me,” he said with a smile.
While at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his cheque, he shared that he plans to invest his winnings and treat himself to a vacation.
“You always play with the hope of winning big but never expect it’ll happen to you,” he stated. “I’m proof that it’s possible. I feel very grateful and blessed to have won this prize.”
