Canadian walks in for groceries and walks out a lottery multimillionaire
Can you imagine walking into the store for groceries only to walk out as a new lottery winner? One Canadian is living that dream.
Jane D., a resident of Surrey, B.C., had stopped at a store one day, not realizing she was going home with more than just groceries. While at the store, she decided to check a Lotto 6/49 ticket that she had previously purchased at a Rexall location.
“I was at the Country Grocer on Cedar [in Nanaimo] when I found out I won,” recalled Jane. “I didn’t know how to react. The cashier was almost more ecstatic than me!”
After celebrating the news with the cashier, she then shared the news with her husband.

“My husband waited for me in the car to bring out groceries, then I told him,” she said. “He didn’t believe me at first, then I showed him the validation slip, and he counted the zeroes.”
Jane had managed to match the Classic Draw winning numbers during the Lotto 6/49 draw that took place on Aug. 8 — she was now $5 million richer.
While at the BCLC office to claim her windfall, she said that she wants to use her money for home renovations, investments, and future travel.
“I want to go on a trip and get a suite on a cruise,” stated Jane.
Now with $5 million in the bank, she described what it’s like to win such a huge prize.
“It’s very exciting,” she said. “I have more flexibility now.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Rexall on Willow Street in Chemainus.
The next Lotto 6/49 draw is on Tuesday, Aug. 25, and the jackpot is worth $10 million.
