
A lottery player from Ontario is planning to give his wife her dream home renovation after hitting the jackpot.
Kingston resident David Livermore won a Lotto 6/49 second prize worth $56,005.50 in the April 2 draw.
The father of two has been playing with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for 20 years. He regularly picks up a $20 Super Pack, which includes two Lotto 6/49 plays with one Encore, two Lotto Max plays with one Encore, one Lottario play, and one Ontario 49 play.

Livermore shared his story of how he discovered his first big win. He told the OLG that it was early in the morning while he was enjoying a coffee.
“I checked my tickets on the OLG app. When I saw that Iād won, I was surprisingly calm. I waited until the morning rush was over before walking to the store where Iād bought my ticket,” Livermore recounted, while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to claim his lottery windfall.
“As I walked in, I said, āIām about to freeze your lottery terminal!ā I know the store owner well, and she had the biggest smile on her face as she heard my words,” he added.
“I saw āBig Winnerā message on the screen, and thatās when it really hit me! My hands were shaking, and I was in a state of shock, but I couldnāt stop smiling.ā
Livermore says that when he first scanned his ticket on the OLG app, his wife was convinced it was a mistake.
“Now that Iām here at the OLG Prize Centre, sheās been blowing up my phone. Sheās as excited as I am,ā he laughed.
The lottery winner shared the news with his coworkers a few days after validating his ticket.
“They would always tease me, saying I was wasting my money, but when I showed them Iād won, the looks on their faces were priceless. Their jaws nearly fell to the floor!ā Livermore recounted.
The prize is going towards a special project for his wife.
“I look forward to renovating our bathroom to give my wife the one sheās always dreamt of,ā Livermore smiled. āOverall, this has been an exhilarating experience. Iām truly happy!ā
He bought his winning lottery ticket at Canex on the CFB Kingston Royal Military College Campus in Kingston.
