A Quebec lottery player is ready to hang up her hat after winning a major lottery prize.

Montérégie resident Carole Chagnon won the $1 million top prize in the Feb. 26 Extra draw and is finally able to say goodbye to her boss and retire.

According to Loto Quebec, Chagnon always says yes to Extra when buying her lottery tickets.

One day, before going to work, she checked her ticket and thought she had won a $100,000 prize. She shared the amazing news with her husband, who asked her if she was sure since there was no $100,000 prize in the Extra draw.

Chagnon’s husband checked the ticket himself and realized that she hadn’t won $100,000 but actually $1 million. Besides her husband, Chagnon’s son and sister were the next to hear about her big lottery win.

Thanks to this windfall, she plans to retire earlier than expected and buy a new car.

Chagnon bought the winning ticket at the Couche-Tard convenience store at 65 Rue de l’Aqueduc in Varennes. The convenience store also shares in the win, receiving a one per cent commission of $10,000.

You could also be on your way to early retirement if you beat the odds in Friday’s Lotto Max draw or Saturday’s Lotto 6/49 draw.

No one will be taking home the $55 million Lotto Max jackpot, but two lottery players came quite close after they matched six of the seven winning numbers and the bonus number. According to PlayNow, the tickets were purchased in Pemberton, B.C. and Quebec. After splitting the second prize, each one will receive $109,850.30.

No one won the Gold Ball prize worth $34 million during the Lotto 6/49 draw. However, someone in Western Canada won the $1 million White Ball prize.

Another lottery player won a life-changing prize after they matched the Lotto 6/49 Classic winning numbers, instantly becoming $5 million richer. The lucky ticket was sold in Quebec.
