
A young Canadian faced an unexpected choice after discovering she had won the top prize in a scratch-and-win lottery game.
Brenda Aubin-Vega is a lottery player in her twenties who lives in Montreal, Que. She said that a couple of times a year, she buys a Gagnant à vie ticket, her favourite lottery game. While at work one day, she decided to treat herself and bought two $5 tickets at a convenience store.
While sitting outside her workplace, she started playing her tickets and to her surprise, one revealed three piggy bank symbols.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes! I checked my ticket over and over again,” she said. Aubin-Vega was shocked to discover that she had won the Gagnant à vie jackpot worth $1,000 a week for life.

She said that she called her father to share the happy news and that, feeling overwhelmed, she asked to take the rest of the day off to process her unexpected good fortune.
According to Loto Quebec, Gagnant à vie jackpot can choose to receive $1,000 a week for their entire life or a tax-free lump sum of $1 million. She opted for $1,000 a week for life. While at the prize center to claim her cheque, she shared that she plans to buy a house with the weekly payments.
The winning ticket was purchased at Dépanneur Jen & Dan, located at 1655 Rue Poirier in Montréal. The retailer will receive a one per cent commission of $10,000.
Recently, another young lottery player from Quebec won the Gagnant à vie jackpot. Cameron McKenzie said he plans to put his winnings towards his education.
