One Canadian’s life is forever changed after scoring the coveted multimillion-dollar Lotto Max jackpot.
The Lotto Max draw that took place on Friday, May 9, was a highly anticipated one ā that’s because the top prize had climbed to the game’s maximum jackpot worth $80 million. The winning numbers were 06, 10, 16, 17, 30, 38, 48, and bonus 25, and one lucky winner had matched all seven winning numbers.
“A Lotto Max ticket purchased in Surrey for last nightās draw matched all seven winning numbers to win the $80-millionĀ jackpot, something that has never happened in B.C.,” states a British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) release.
“The historic win marks the first time a B.C. player(s) has won the $80-millionĀ jackpotĀ since the Lotto Max jackpot cap was increased to $80Ā millionĀ in September 2024. Previously, the largest lottery prize ever won in B.C. was $70Ā million, won in September 2021.”
BCLC said it will announce where the ticket was purchased once the winner comes forward to claim their winnings.
The Lotto Max second prize will be split between two winners ā one in Ontario and another in Quebec. After matching six of the seven winning numbers and the bonus number, they’ll each receive $194,054.70.
The third prize will be split among 72 Canadians, each receiving $5,390.40.
Several lottery players also won Maxmillions prizes: two winning tickets were sold in Western Canada and one in Ontario. A lottery player in Atlantic Canada and Prince George, B.C., will split a $1-million prize after they matched the exact numbers.
Another B.C. resident will have a reason to celebrate after netting the $500,000 Lotto Max Extra top prize. In Ontario, no one won the $1-million Encore prize.
The next Lotto Max draw is set for Tuesday, May 13, and the top prize is worth $20 million.
