Kris Di Silva is $100,000 richer after a lottery win last month, and he plans to help out a few of his friends and send his mom back to the East Coast to see her family.
The Sherwood Park, Alberta, local said he was going through his typical morning routine when he discovered the win.
“I wake up early, go for a smoke and check my tickets,” he explained. “I was on the website and checked the numbers — I probably checked them back and forth about a hundred times!”
He immediately called his mom to tell her the good news.
“She didn’t believe me at first,” he laughed. “I thought I’d faint if I ever won — I could barely believe it!”

Di Silva said the win is an unexpected gift that is allowing him to finally exhale.
“The last few years have been so trying,” he said. “I’m back at square one, and this means I can breathe again.”
Di Silva purchased his winning Lotto MAX and Extra ticket from 7-Eleven at 2 Sioux Rd. in Sherwood Park. He won his prize by matching the last six digits in the July 18 Extra draw: 2234313.
