Thousands of Ford trucks recalled across Canada

Ford Canada announced that it’s recalling thousands of its popular truck models due to a potentially serious safety issue.

If you purchased a truck from Ford Canada, make sure to check if your vehicle is part of Transport Canada’s latest recall.

In the announcement, the government department stated that on some trucks, there’s a risk of rear axle bolts breaking, causing the axle shaft’s splines to wear.

“If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels. Additionally, if the truck is parked and the parking brake isn’t applied, the truck could roll away,” reads the recall. “A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. A parked vehicle that rolls away could create the risk of an injury or a crash.”

As a result, Ford Canada is recalling 22,663 affected vehicles. Affected models include Ford F-150 trucks with model years 2023, 2024, and 2025. However, it doesn’t include trucks with the Trailer Tow Max Duty optional package. Ford issued a similar recall in the U.S., which affects around 113,000 vehicles.

To rectify the situation, Ford will be contacting vehicle owners by mail. If your truck is part of the recall, you’ll be advised to take it to a dealership to replace the rear axle shafts.

“Any repairs required due to a recall from Ford Motor Company of Canada will be conducted at no cost to you,” reads the Ford Canada recall website. “If you become aware of a recall after you’ve repaired the issue, you may be entitled to reimbursement.”

To check if you own one of the affected trucks, you can also reach out to customer service at 1 (800) 565-3673, or by looking up your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the recall website. Your VIN can be found on the lower left-hand side of the dashboard, the driver’s side door, or on your vehicle registration.

Recently, Ford Canada also recalled over 60,000 vehicles due to a “risk of crash” as a result of a software problem that could cause the electronic brake booster motor to shut down.
