If shoppers can already earn points while picking up items at drugstores, grocery stores and even fast-food restaurants, it only makes sense that Canada’s largest discount chain, Dollarama, would eventually get in on the points game, too.
Dollarama has become the go-to for Canadians looking to stretch their wallets since opening its first location in the early 90s.
Granted, not everything at Dollarama costs a buck anymore. But for the most part, you can still find plenty of items for $5 or less, making the discount chain a convenient and affordable option in today’s economic climate.
Now, Canadians can get a little something back while doing their Dollarama shopping, too.
Thanks to a relatively new partnership between the Canadian chain and Bank of Montreal (BMO), shoppers can now earn points while shopping at over 1,700 Dollarama stores across the country.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Air Miles would transition into BMO’s new rewards program, Blue Rewards, which promises “more ways to earn, more places to redeem and a growing network of partners.”
Canadians can earn rewards at over 400 brands, including Instacart, Sephora, Amazon and now, much to everyone’s delight, Dollarama.
It’s hard to think of a better store to include in a rewards program, because, as Chris Wragg, the VP of strategic partnerships at Blue Rewards, says, “Canadians are focused on managing their budgets and getting the most from every dollar.”
According to the Blue Rewards website, shoppers can get one point for every $1 spent in-store at Dollarama, and the purchase must be a minimum of $20.
One day you might head in for a pack of garbage bags and somehow leave with snacks, home decor, a few things for the kitchen and something you definitely did not need but, hey, it was only $3 so you threw it in your cart anyway.
From cleaning supplies to party decorations, the discount chain has become a popular spot for Canadians to pick up essentials without paying full price elsewhere, like Shoppers or Walmart.
Eventually, shoppers who earn points from Dollarama (and other stores) can redeem them for gift cards, in-store purchases, merchandise and travel.
Any Canadian-issued Mastercard and BMO debit card can be linked to Blue Rewards, while existing BMO Blue Rewards credit card holders are automatically linked, the website states.
There are over 1,700 Dollarama stores across Canada, and the plan, Retail Insider says, is to expand to 2,200 stores by 2034.
