Canada ranks among the 10 safest travel destinations in 2025
It’s not just cost — safety is one of the top factors shaping our travel decisions, and Canada is among the safest countries, according to a new ranking.
The ranking, published by travel industry news site Tourism Review, places Canada in its top 10 safest countries for tourists in 2025.
“The world is unpredictable. Travellers prioritize safety for their next trip,” reads the ranking.
According to the list, Canada is the 10th safest country in the world, while in the number one spot is Iceland, which “ranks as the safest destination globally.”
“Nordic and Alpine nations hold the top spots,” reads the ranking. “They have low crime, strong institutions, and high social trust.”
Using data from the United Nations, World Bank, World Health Organization (WHO), and Transparency International, as well as surveys from Numbeo, Tourism Review ranked countries using a safety index score from zero to 100 — the higher the score, the safer the country.
Safety isn’t just about low crime rates, which is why the ranking looks at different factors.
These include public safety and crime, such as homicide levels, violent crime, and road safety, as well as political and social stability, which takes into account government quality, corruption, and social trust.
The ranking also examines health and healthcare security, including disease risks and how easy it is for travellers to access good medical care. In addition, it looks at cybersecurity and digital safety, as well as environmental risks, such as the possibility of natural disasters like earthquakes and climate events.
According to Tourism Review, these are the ten safest countries for solo travellers and families.
