Canada just got a charming Christmas coin you can hang on your tree
Canada just got a festive new Christmas coin that would look just as good in your coin collection as it would hanging on your tree.
The Christmas coin that’s now available for purchase in Canada is the latest release from the Royal Canadian Mint. According to the website, the Snowman Winter Sleigh Ride is a silver coin that’s only sold in Canada.
And it’s not shaped like regular change.

This whimsical retro design features a cheerful snowman family on a candy cane-striped sled as they glide down a snowy hill. Everyone’s in matching scarves in a way that makes total sense in this winter wonderland.
“Surrounded by soft winter hues and glistening accents, the scene captures the warmth and excitement of Christmas days gone by,” reads the site.

The coin comes in a custom ornament capsule that makes it easy to hang on a tree, or really anywhere you like. In addition, it comes in an equally festive slide-out card, making it a fun and unique gift. If you know someone who would absolutely treasure this design, the coin is available on the Mint’s website and costs $189.95. A total of 2,500 of these coins will be available, and shipping starts on Dec. 22.

The coin was produced in Switzerland and weighs 31.39 grams, and it’s made with 99.99 per cent pure silver. It was issued for the Solomon Islands and has a face value of SI$2 (equivalent to around 34 cents in Canada).
The Mint also has several holiday-themed coins that you can buy online, such as the Dear Santa silver glow-in-the-dark coin, which features old St. Nick checking his mail in the North Pole.
