Always running out of storage space on Air Canada flights? That’s about to change.

Air Canada announced on Tuesday that it will be the first airline to launch the Airbus Airspace cabin on its A220 family of aircraft, giving customers more room in overhead bins.

The A220 Airspace cabin features new XL bins, increasing overhead capacity of bags by more than 15 per cent, according to the carrier. It will also feature a new ceiling design and lighting.

The introduction of the new Airspace cabin on Air Canada flights coincides with additional upgrades, including an updated cabin interior and seat-back entertainment.

“The introduction of larger overhead bins on future A220s means more space for your belongings, quicker boarding, and an even better experience on board,” said John Moody, managing director of onboard products at Air Canada.

The first aircraft with the XL overhead bins are scheduled to be up and running in early 2026.

According to the carrier, the A220 already offers more space for passengers with the widest seats and aisles, as well as the largest cabin and windows in its class.

Air Canada currently operates a fleet of 34 A220-300, manufactured in Mirabel, Que.

If you plan on flying with the carrier this year, make sure you’re aware of the new fees that have recently kicked in.

Travellers now need to pay extra if they want to change their seats on Air Canada flights. There are also new carry-on baggage fees that were implemented in January.
