Canadians eligible for the Advanced Canada Workers Benefit (ACWB) can expect to receive payments from the government next week.
These payments are sent out in three automatic installments throughout the year, according to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
What is the ACWB?
The ACWB is an advanced payment of the Canada Workers Benefit (CWB), a refundable tax credit that eligible individuals can claim on their tax return.
The benefit is meant to help individuals and families who are working and earning a lower income. Canadians who are eligible for the CWB on their tax return will receive advanced payments of up to 50 per cent of the CWB through the ACWB. The first payment of this year is set to go out on Monday, Jan. 12.
You’re eligible if you meet the following criteria:
- You’re over 19 years old on Dec. 31, or live with a spouse or common-law partner or your child,
- You’re a resident of Canada throughout the year, and
- You’re working but earn below the net income level set for your province or territory of residence
How much can you receive?
If you’re eligible for this benefit, the amount you receive depends on various factors such as your income, where you live, and the size of your household.
Following a 2.7 per cent increase due to indexation in 2025, the maximum basic amount for the CWB is $1,633 for single individuals; meanwhile, families can receive up to $2,813.
The maximum disability supplement amount is $843 for individuals and families, based on adjusted net income.
Canadians eligible for the CWB will receive up to 50 per cent in advance payments.
That means, split across three payments, you could receive the following:
- a maximum of $272 for single individuals
- a maximum of $469 for families
The maximum basic and disability CWB payment will vary for residents of Quebec, Nunavut, and Alberta.
“You must be a resident of Canada on the first day of the quarter to be eligible for the advanced payments,” states the federal government.
You can use the child and family benefits calculator to estimate your advanced payment amount.
You don’t need to apply for the ACWB as the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) determines your eligibility when you file your tax return. If you’ve been receiving ACWB payments, you can expect to receive the next one on July 10, 2026, and it will include a two per cent increase.
