Calgary is set to make a little history next winter.

The X Games are coming to Canada for the first time, with Calgary’s WinSport Canada Olympic Park selected to host one of three events during the inaugural X Games League Winter season.

“What an incredible win for Calgary to be the only Canadian city selected to host such an internationally acclaimed event,” said Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas. “Calgary is growing as a global hub for sport and culture, and welcoming the X Games is an opportunity to show the world the hospitality, spirit and character that makes this city so special.”

The Calgary event will run from Feb. 19 to 21, 2027, bringing three days of skiing and snowboarding competition to the city.

Athletes will compete in Big Air, Knuckle Huck, Slopestyle, and SuperPipe, while the event will also feature live music performances during the first two nights.

Calgary was selected following a competitive global bidding process, joining Aspen, Colorado, and Ruka, Finland, as the three host cities for the inaugural winter season.

“Bringing Winter X Games to Canada has been a priority for us,” said  Games CEO Jeremy Bloom. “Canadian athletes have won 366 X Games medals, second-most of any country in the world. Calgary has the history, infrastructure and winter sports culture to make X Games feel at home. With XC Whistler in the league and Calgary on the calendar, Canadian fans now have a club to rally behind and an X Games event of their own.”

The event will also introduce Calgary fans to a new format for the X Games.

Rather than competing solely for individual medals, athletes will compete for clubs as part of the newly launched X Games League. Competitors will earn points for their respective clubs throughout the season, with the club accumulating the most points ultimately crowned the league champion.

The four winter clubs will each build rosters through the XGL Winter Draft, which is scheduled to take place on Sept. 16.

The new format is designed to give the X Games a more traditional league structure while maintaining the individual competition that has long been at the centre of the event.

For Calgary, though, the biggest draw will be the opportunity to host the X Games for the first time.

Canada Olympic Park has a long history of hosting major winter sporting events dating back to the 1988 Winter Olympics, but the arrival of the X Games will add another major international event to the city’s calendar.

Tickets for this event are available for purchase, with a standard three-day pass going for $99. Fans also have the option to purchase a gold lounge three-day pass, which includes several amenities, including an open bar and complimentary food. The gold lounge pass is going for $449.
