Calgary police believe woman killed in collision may have been sitting on road

A fatal collision took the life of one young woman this past weekend.

According to a release from the Calgary Police Service, a car struck a pedestrian in the early hours of Saturday, August 25. The pedestrian, described as a woman in her 20s in the release, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police state that it is believed that the woman had been sitting in a driving lane on the road at the time of the collision, which took place on Memorial Drive near the Deerfoot Interchange. The driver had been travelling east.

Charges have not been laid against the driver of the vehicle, as neither speed nor alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash. The driver was not injured following the incident.

Police continue to investigate.
