Wolf shows off new set of Calgary Flames gear inspired by Kiprusoff

Dustin Wolf will be rolling back the clock with a new set of Calgary Flames gear.

Wolf may have been 12 years old when Miikka Kiprusoff played his last game in the NHL, but that isn’t stopping him from honouring the legendary Flames goaltender.

With the Flames introducing a new throwback jersey harkening back to the design they wore during their 2004 Stanley Cup Final run, Wolf has opted to design a new set of goalie gear to fit the occasion.

During practice on Saturday, the California native took to the ice in a set of vintage gear that mimics Kiprusoff’s old look. The new set even includes a new mask, which also features Kiprusoff’s iconic flaming skull front and centre.

The Flames are set to debut the throwback jersey this upcoming Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings, where Wolf will almost assuredly get the chance to debut the new look in front of fans at the Saddledome.

When asked about how he came up with the idea, Wolf said he thought the gear would work perfectly with the new jersey.

“When I seen and heard about the jerseys we were going to wear this year, I tried to pull some inspiration from the past,” Wolf said. “I thought it was a pretty easy replica to find exactly what he was wearing in ’04.

“He’s such a big presence in this city, and obviously his number is hanging from the rafters… I just tried to find pictures of exactly what he was wearing with those exact jerseys.”

Wolf added that they got the blessing from Kiprusoff’s old goalie helmet artist to recreate the design. The Flames goaltender also said he has yet to get a chance to be able to talk to Finnish legend, but hopes to connect with him at some point this season.

Kiprusoff became the second goaltender in Flames history to have his number retired, after Mike Vernon, back in 2024, and remains the franchise leader in several categories, including wins (305), shutouts (41), and games played (576).

Wolf and the Flames will be hoping that the young goaltender can channel a bit of Kiprusoff with the new gear. Calgary has gotten off to a nightmare 1-6-0 start and will need to turn things around quickly if they want a chance at making up ground.
