WinSport's Pride Slide cancelled due to poor ticket sales

Calgary Pride will be a little less colourful this year thanks to the cancellation of WinSport’s Pride Slide.

Event organizers say lacklustre ticket sales for the Pride Slide, which was supposed to kick off Pride Week festivities on August 27, is the reason for the cancellation. Ticket sales failed to ramp up since they launched three weeks ago.

“Unfortunately, ticket sales did not live up to our expectations and with various deposit deadlines approaching, we could not wait any longer to make the decision to cancel the event,” says WinSport President and CEO Barry M. Heck in a release. “We will continue to work with Calgary Pride in the future, including this year’s symposium, festival and parade.”

Heck adds that they will honour their commitment to making a donation to Calgary Pride in spite of the cancellation.

For those who already purchased tickets, full refunds are available, and Ticketmaster purchases by phone or online will automatically be refunded.

WinSport says since they’ve already purchased the slide, people should keep their eyes open for “other slide opportunities in the coming weeks.”
