Bigger and better? The Westside Recreation Centre in Calgary is undergoing a major renovation, and it’s going to be virtually unrecognizable once it’s done.
The Westside Recreation Centre is located at 2000 69th St. SW, Calgary and already boasts a bevy of amenities like an aquatic park, gymnasiums, fitness centre, pilates studio, and more.
The big makeover will be focused on adding a whopping 5,000 sq ft expansion along with a renovation to upgrade and modernize select facilities and the fitness area.

This is the largest project undertaken by the facility since 2010. Renovations started in May and are expected to continue over a nine-month period.
The Westside Recreation Centre renewal project will be focusing on these key areas:
Fitness centre
The Fitness Centre will be expanded by approximately 5,000 square feet to provide additional space for individual and small group fitness. The new area will be fully outfitted with new equipment, with a focus on functional fitness. The North Fitness area will also feature a new configuration and flooring alongside a renovation of the Junior Studio and resurfacing of the Running Track.

Plus change rooms
The Plus Change Rooms will receive their first major renovation since Westside opened in 2000. Both men’s and women’s Plus changing areas will feature new lockers, washrooms, showers, steam rooms, grooming stations, fixtures and finishings.

Cafe and lobby
Food services will be relocated to the front of the building with the creation of a new café area with expanded seating, longer hours of operation, and mobile ordering capabilities. The local community café operator will feature a health-focused menu, a coffee bar, and locally sourced food offerings.

New Service Elevator: It may not sound as exciting, but function matters too! A new service elevator will be installed on Westside’s north side to meet usage demands and to safely carry heavy equipment, freight, and construction materials to the second floor.
The speedy nine-month timeline aims to finish the project by December of this year. In the meantime, renovation activity has been planned to minimize impact on members and guests. Westside facilities, programs and services will all remain accessible during this time.
