What might just be the most magical night of the year is coming up for Calgary this spring.
The Water Lantern Festival will be held at Calgary’s Olympic Plaza on Saturday, May 25, with thousands of floating lanterns expected to shine against the plaza’s waters in a celebration that spans the entire world.

According to the festival’s official website, the event is a celebration of life with proceeds going towards charities and non-profit organizations within the area.
“Water Lantern Festival brings together individuals from all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life to join in one emotional and memorable night. At the Water Lantern Festival, we cherish these moments and will do our best to help you have a memorable experience that you’ll never forget as you witness the beauty of thousands of lanterns reflecting upon the water,” the website states.
The festival takes place throughout multiple cities around the world, with the Canadian cities of Quebec, Regina, Vancouver, Hamilton, Mississauga, Ottawa, Montreal, and, of course, Calgary taking part.
Tickets are currently available for the event and are going for $38.99 per person ā a discount over the $43 price after May 24 and the $50 you’d spend on the day-of.
The event is planned to start at 5:30 pm with food trucks and music. Lantern design will be done at 8 pm, and the launch will run from 9 to 10 pm.
All tickets include a floating lantern, a commemorative drawstring bag, a marker, and a wristband.
